Instead of purchasing another impersonal gift from your local department store, honor Mom this Mother's Day by crafting a one-of-a-kind keepsake that she will cherish.

Moms adore gifts from the heart! Surprise her this Mother's Day with a present you made with your own two hands. A homemade gift is guaranteed to bring a smile to Mom's face, and certain to be one of her treasured possessions for a lifetime.

Crafting handmade Mother's Day crafts is both simple and fun, and won't break the bank if you're on a budget. With a little bit of creativity, you can create a beautifully priceless Mother's Day gift to celebrate the spring holiday.

Mother's Day Bookmark

Craft a keepsake bookmark this Mother's Day. All you need is some construction paper, a black marker and pretty stickers. Cut a piece of construction paper into approximately 4-inch strips. (Tip: Use Mom's favorite color of construction paper for your handmade bookmark.) Use the black marker to inscribe "Happy Mother's Day" on the strip. Finally, decorate with stickers. Voila. . .you have a unique bookmark that Mom will treasure!

Mother's Day Tote Bag or Apron

Purchase a plain canvas tote bag or apron from your local Michael's or other craft supply store to create this fully functional, yet unique, gift. Pull out your cookie cutters – shapes like hearts and flowers work best for this project – and acrylic paint in a variety of colors. Lightly dip the bottom of a cookie cutter in the paint and use it like a stamp to imprint the design on your tote or apron. Let dry. Mom will love using her one-of-kind tote bag or apron, and will think of the designer every time she uses it.

Mother's Day Vase

All you need is an empty soda can or bottle, and some tissue paper to make a unique bud vase. After cleaning out your empty soda can, cut out several 2 in. by 2 in. tissue paper squares in a variety of colors. Glue the tissue paper pieces onto the soda can in a design of your choosing to create a sort of stain glass effect. Once dry, fill the soda can about halfway full of water and put one of Mom's favorite flowers inside the opening to complete this whimsical Mother's Day vase.

Mother's Day Masterpiece

Paint a masterpiece that is guaranteed to rival Picasso, at least as far as Mom is concerned. Grab some watercolor paints and paint her an abstract painting that she will truly love. Once your work of art has dried, make sure to add your signature and frame it so that Mom can proudly display it on the wall.

Celebrate Mother's Day this May by giving Mom the perfect gift – a present made by loving hands. Not only will you have fun creating a special and unique gift, but she will treasure the heart-felt keepsake for years to come.
